We're delighted to announce the cast for our upcoming production of Roger Hall's Glide Time, which comes to The PumpHouse Theatre this September. Albie Smith will play The Boss, Chris Smith takes on Wally, John Palmer plays Jim, Christina Cie plays Beryl, Jimmy Carrick plays Hugh, Zac Russell plays John, and Ngahere Hedlund completes the cast as Michael.

The production marks 50 years since Glide Time first opened at Circa Theatre in Wellington in 1976. The play, set in the stores branch of a New Zealand government department, went on to become one of the most significant works in New Zealand theatre, later inspiring the television series Gliding On.

After the first read through, the response from the creative team has been hugely positive. Director Vikki Cottingham said: "I couldn't be more thrilled with the cast. Hearing the words leap off the page in our first read-through highlights just how good Sir Roger is at writing dialogue that makes it easy for us Kiwis to laugh at ourselves."

Behind the scenes, our set, props, and wardrobe teams are already well into preparation, working to recreate the look and feel of a 1976 government office for the stage.

We're aiming to bring both the comedy and the warmth of the original production to a new audience, while marking an important milestone for New Zealand theatre.
